DC Cowboys - Auditions

Audition Info

If you are interested in joining the DC Cowboys, members are selected through a group audition process held once a year. Auditions are held in a very comfortable setting at our rehearsal location and are typically 1.5 hours long. Jazz dance training is the best preparation for the audition. Those auditioning are taught small sections or dance combinations from existing choreography and are then asked to perform them in small groups. You’ll never be asked to audition alone. Three to four current DC Cowboy choreographers and performers will evaluate your performance in the following areas:

Showmanship
Movement ability (dancing skills)
Overall appearance

While not a prerequisite, many of the DC Cowboys have previous performance, dance training, and/or musical theater experience.

Member Requirements

The DC Cowboys is a volunteer organization that relies on the dedication and talents of its members to operate in the manner of a professional arts organization. We are looking for individuals who are responsible, able to attend rehearsals, and willing to make a commitment of more than one year to the organization. The DC Cowboys usually rehearse for two hours once a week and twice a week when a major performance is imminent. Though everyone is not required to be at all rehearsals, attendance is required at designated mandatory rehearsals in order to be considered for a performance.

Performance Opportunities

The DC Cowboys perform on an average of twice a month at benefits & fundraisers, dance parties, gay rodeos (IGRA), hoedowns, circuit parties, gay-pride events, and country-western dance bars across the U.S. and Canada as well as in the local Washington, DC and Baltimore area.
